This 7-day program will take you through the Haute-Vienne from north to south and east to west. You’ll discover our characterful villages and thousand-faceted landscapes! There’s plenty to do to keep you coming back for more.

Day 1

Oradour-sur-Glane, remembrance and the villages of the Monts de Blond

Stage 1: Oradour-sur-Glane, a place of remembrance

Your itinerary begins in Oradour-sur-Glane with a visit to the memorial center and access to the martyred village. On June 10, 1944, this small village Limousin was destroyed and the population massacred by a Waffen SS unit. After your visit, discover the new Oradour with its distinctive rebuilt village architecture.

Stage 2: Oradour-sur-Glane to Montrol-Sénard, 15km – 18 min.

Discover Montrol-Sénard, a small village typical of the Monts de Blond region, where you can step back into rural life at the beginning of the 20th century. A number of buildings are open to the public, offering a glimpse into the life of yesteryear (the school, the bakery, etc.).

Stage 3: Montrol-Sénard to Mortemart, 1.3km – 2 min.

Discover Mortemart, one of France’s Most Beautiful Villages, with its church and carved wooden stalls, covered market and château des Ducs de Mortemart.

Stage 4: Mortemart to Bellac, 13 km – 15 min.

The town of Bellac welcomes you for the night on the banks of the Vincou. Take advantage of your stopover to discover the Maison Jean Giradoux or the rich program at the Théâtre du Cloître.

Your overnight stop? 🛏️ the Rives du Vincou reception area in Bellac.

Day 2

Petites Cités de Caractère and Lake Saint-Pardoux

Stage 1: Bellac to Le Dorat, 12km – 15min.

Le Dorat, Petites Cités de Caractère©, is the capital of the Basse Marche Limousine. It bears the imprint of a town with a rich past. Discover the Porte Bergère, the only fortified gateway in the Haute-Vienne, the imposing Saint-Pierre collegiate church and the facades of elegant residences.

Worth discovering? The macaron du Dorat, a sweet almond-based specialty available only from Au Délice Gourmand, a butcher and delicatessen in Le Dorat that carefully guards the original recipe.

Stage 2: Le Dorat to Lac de Saint-Pardoux, 31km – 40 min.

On your itinerary, you can make a detour to Châteauponsac, pearl of the Gartempe, and discover the René Baubérot museum.

The Lac de Saint-Pardoux welcomes you to a Camping-Car Park close to all the activities (swimming pool, swimming in the lake, adventure park in the trees, pedal-boat…), with plenty of opportunities for activities and walks.

Not to be missed? 💥 the Ponton and its magnificent view of the lake.

Day 3

Monts d'Ambazac and Saint-Léonard de Noblat

Stage 1: Lac de Saint-Pardoux to Sauvagnac (Saint-Léger-la-Montagne), 14km – 20 min.

A change of scenery as you enter the Monts d’Ambazac, our mid-range Limousin mountains. In Sauvagnac, discover the Dauges peat bog, a national nature reserve, and the “pierre branlante” with its exceptional viewpoint.

Stage 2: Sauvagnac to Pont du Dognon, 13km – 15 min.

Pont du Dognon is ideal for a refreshing stop on the banks of the Taurion.

Stage 3: Pont du Dognon to Saint-Léonard de Noblat, 14km – 15 min.

Along the way, visit the Moulin du Got, a paper mill and ancient printing works.

Visit the medieval town of Saint-Léonard de Noblat and its collegiate church, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as part of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

Don’t miss the marzipan, a sweet almond-based speciality to be found in the town’s patisseries.

Day 4

Lake Vassivière

Stage 1: from Saint-Léonard de Noblat to Peyrat-le-Château, 27km – 35 min.

Set off from Saint-Léonard de Noblat towards Lac de Vassivière.

On the way, stop off at Peyrat-le-Château for a stroll around the lake and its heritage.

Don’t miss the Musée de la Résistance (Resistance Museum), which showcases the great figures of Limousin history.

Stage 2: Peyrat-le-Château to Ile de Vassivière 13km – 15 min.

The island of Vassivière is pedestrianized, and can be reached on foot, by bike or by taking the various shuttles available during the summer season.

You can walk around and discover the Bois des Sculptures and its Land Art works, visit the Centre Internationale d’Art et du Paysage, which presents temporary exhibitions. Discover the lighthouse, designed by architects Aldo Rossi and Xavier Fabre, which dominates the island and offers an exceptional view of the lake and surrounding area.

Stage 3: Île de Vassivière to Auphelle beach, 6.2km – 10 min.

To enjoy the lake even more, you can spend the night on Auphelle beach, in the commune of Peyrat-le-Château.

Day 5

Around Mont Gargan

Stage 1: From Auphelle to Eymoutiers, 17km – 25 min.

Eymoutiers, a Pelaude town on the banks of the Vienne. Take time out to explore its shopping streets and its collegiate church with its magnificent stained-glass windows. Indulge in the sweet speciality of pelaud, a small chocolate and hazelnut cookie.

Every Saturday morning, take advantage of the market in the covered market hall, which showcases regional products.

Stage 2: Eymoutiers to Mont-Gargan, 21 km – 30 min.

After a short climb along the avenue of hundred-year-old beech trees, you’ll reach the summit of Mont-Gargan. At an altitude of 730 metres, it dominates the surrounding area, offering a 360° view of the Monédières massif and the Monts d’Auvergne.

A stele has been erected in memory of the maquisards who fought alongside General George Guingouin, a figure of the Limousine Resistance during the battle of Mont Gargan.

Stage 3: Mont-Gargan to Meuzac, 26km – 30 min.

For the night, head for the Meuzac motorhome park on the banks of the Etang de la Roche.

Day 6

At the gateway to Corrèze!

Stage 1: Meuzac to Coussac-Bonneval, 26 km – 30 min.

Heading for the south of the Haute-Vienne, we stop off at Coussac-Bonneval to discover the Château de Bonneval, which has been in the same family for many generations.

Fishing friends, we invite you to discover the Moulin Authier fish farm a few kilometers from the town; great family fun 🤗

Stage 2: Coussac Bonneval to Ségur-le-château, 12 km – 15 min.

Ségur-le-château is a Corrézienne commune that has the distinction of belonging to a community of communes in Haute-Vienne. This medieval town has been awarded the Plus Beaux Villages de France label. Take a look at the old shop fronts and the facades of the beautiful residences and enjoy a break on the banks of the Auvézère.

Stage 3: Ségur-le-château to Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, 15 km – 20 min.

Stop off in the Arédian town to stroll its shopping streets and discover its heritage. If you’re not afraid of heights, the Plô tower in the town center will give you a unique view of the town. Don’t leave without tasting Saint-Yrieix’s specialty, the madeleine! And yes, Commercy isn’t the only town where you can taste the madeleine!

Our favorite address ❤️ is that of a pastry-maker: Le Croquembouche. 😋

And for the night, enjoy a refreshing break at the Lac d’Arfeuille campsite!

Day 7

on the road to Richard the Lionheart

Stage 1: Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche to Châlus, 28 km – 35 min.

Discover some of the castles of the Richard the Lionheart Route on this final day. On your way, you can stop off at Le Chalard, a small medieval town. Then head to Châlus for a visit to Château de Châlus-Chabrol, witness to the battle in which King Richard was mortally wounded.

After your visit, enjoy a refreshing break on the terrace, which offers an exceptional view of the town.

For the more sporty, head for the Châlus train station for a stroll along the voie verte. This rehabilitated former railroad line links Oradour-sur-Vayre on a 13km stretch, making for a shady bike ride.

Bikes can be hired on site.

Stage 2: Châlus to Rochechouart, 26 km – 32 min.

In Rochechouart, discover the château overlooking the Limousin countryside. Today, it houses the Musée Départemental d’Art Contemporain, which hosts temporary exhibitions. Inside, you’ll find two frescoed rooms and its imposing roof structure.

Afterwards, take a stroll through the market town and take note of the distinctive church steeple.

Stage 3: Rochechouart to Saint-Junien, 11 km – 15min.

Saint-Junien, the city of leather.

Discover the city of leather (opening spring 2024) and the glove-makers’ stores in the town center.

For a refreshing break on the banks of the Glane, opt for the Corot site, which inspired the painter of the same name, and take a pleasant stroll in the shade.

For gourmet pleasure? 🍴l’Arena, Saint-Junien’s sweet specialty, can be found at the Faure patisserie!

The Saint-Junien Motorhome Park is ideal for your evening stopover and perhaps to extend your stay.
