Standing on its rocky promontory, Château de Rochechouart is a remarkable testament to medieval architecture, of which it retains elements from the XIIIᵉ and XVᵉ centuries, such as the keep and an elegant Renaissance gallery.

Built on the remains of a meteorite crater over 200 million years old, it proudly overlooks the Graine and Vayres valleys, offering a beautiful panorama of the Limousin countryside. The visit

The self-guided tour lets you discover the château, the collection, the exhibitions and the historic rooms. A tour brochure and information on the works and artists in the various museum spaces will guide you.

The museum is open from March 1 to December 15, Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 6pm.

Astroblème trail

At the foot of the château, a 2km walk through the town of Rochechouart tells the story of the meteorite’s fall 200 million years ago. On this interpretive trail, you’ll discover the hypotheses behind the meteorite’s fall, as well as the legends surrounding this phenomenon.
