The Montautre site is a veritable historical treasure trove, with an exceptional wealth of cultural heritage down the ages. Its proximity to running water and natural resources has undoubtedly played a key role in the site’s appeal, from the Neolithic to the present day.

Gallo-Roman remains, evoke the importance of the site in ancient times, where a temple dedicated to Mercury may have been a place of worship and trade.

The construction of the château by the Mondin family after the Hundred Years’ War marked a turning point in Montautre’s history. 🏰Grâce à François Mondin de Montautre et son ascension à la cour royale, le château a pu pu devenir un témoin privilégié de la courtoisie et des relations de pouvoir à la Renaissance.

The preservation of the archives📚 since 1403 and the continuity of ownership by the same family until 2000 offer an invaluable wealth of information: lifestyles, traditions and the social evolutions of the lesser nobility in the Comté de la Marche.

The Château de Montautre, is offering a new activity for 2024: an escape game 🎲 entitled “Prisoners at the Château de Montautre”.

Participants are taken prisoner as soon as they enter the castle’s Basse-Cour and find themselves locked in the medieval stables.

This escape game 🔍 thus combines the appeal of a real historical site with the classic challenges of an escape game, offering a unique immersive experience in an authentic 15th-century setting.
