Rare and
protected species
When you’re hiking in Haute-Vienne, there are certain experiences that give you butterflies in your stomach. Raise your eyes to the sky and watch the majestic flight of the peregrine falcon nesting in the Vienne gorges. Watch the agile ballet of the rhinolophus and the barbastelle. Walk along the banks of the Vige and spot traces of the passage of Lady Otter. Or wait until nightfall to hear the gentle “hoot-hoot-hoot” of the yellow-bellied toad…
WILL YOU SEE THEM?
Keep your eyes peeled for the speckled flowers of martagon lilies standing proudly at the edge of forests, or the discreet rosettes of drosera, the carnivorous plant that stalks its prey in the middle of peat bogs.
