5 hikes to do with your dogin Haute-Vienne

5 hikes to do with your dog

Our paths are also a delight for our four-legged friends. Here’s a list that’s sure to please dogs and their owners alike. Ps: On the trails, your dog must be kept on a leash to avoid disturbing other hikers and local wildlife.
A quick of a view

1. Artige priory circuit

An 8 km walk in Saint Léonard de Noblat in the Limousin countryside. The ideal way to stretch your pooch’s legs without tiring him out too much.

Wide open spaces, picturesque little hamlets and undergrowth for a little welcome shade in fine weather and to cool your paw pads on a soft carpet of leaves. And then sheep and cows in the meadows to stimulate your sense of observation. Hop, grab the leash and let’s get on with the adventure!

(For the record, the dog pictured here (now in doggie heaven) was the trail’s mascot. He belonged to a family who lived on the trail and used to accompany hikers on their walks. So a thought for the late Gustave 🙂

2. Lake Saint-Pardoux

Did you know? The loop around Saint-Pardoux-le-Lac is always a delight for young and old, but also… for fur balls.

Easily accessible to all, it’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll or run with your pet. A thousand and one scents will delight their senses along the way, making the lake a little corner of paradise for them.

And don’t forget your leash, as Lake Saint-Pardoux is a favorite with nature lovers!

3. The Boiling Pot

A place to take the whole family and your companion: it’s the boiling pot. Here you’ll find a Terrà Aventura course for humans and a rocky setting for dogs to leap from stone to stone. The river also provides a cool spot in summer, ideal for everyone.

Along the way, there are numerous natural cavities to explore with your nose or eyes.

However, we do not recommend this route in winter, when there may be currents.

4. The Hautes Forêts path

In Haute-Vienne, it’s easy to find yourself alone with your dog in the great outdoors.

The Chemin des Hautes Forêts will give you the feeling of freedom you’re looking for. There’s no one on the horizon, just beautiful scenery and freedom for your pooch.

A variant of the route allows you to shorten the hiking distance, as you wish.

5. The Demoiselles trail

If you’ve got a dog that needs to stretch its legs, this is the hike for him!

The Demoiselles trail, located in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin, on the edge of the Dordogne, has a lot of elevation gain and many kilometers to cover. The paths wind through chestnut groves and forest massifs, and beautiful views reward your efforts.

The route is 16 kilometers long, but has the advantage of being nowhere near any major roads, making it much easier to walk with your dog!
