The Vienne River rises on the Plateau de Millevaches in Corrèze, at an altitude of almost 900 m, and flows through the entire Portes de Vassivière area. A paradise for fishermen, it is of remarkable interest. Several listed sites have been defined in connection with the Vienne valley (listed from upstream to downstream): Négremont rocks (communes of Nedde and Rempnat), Nedde castle, Vienne riverbanks at Eymoutiers, Vienne gorges (communes of Augne, Bujaleuf, Eymoutiers). In the Gorges de la Vienne, at Bussy-Varache in Eymoutiers, the Vienne forms deep gorges, sometimes over a hundred meters deep, with wooded banks. The river loops, which are often very narrow, and the numerous tributaries, which are also steep and divide the relief, produce jagged hillsides. The site retains a very wild character.
