Quick overview

1. The gardens of Château de Losmonerie

Remarkable gardens and gourmet adventures

In Aixe-sur-Vienne, just outside Limoges, one of the most beautiful châteaux in Limousin reveals a heritage treasure: the remarkable gardens of Château de Losmonerie. Built in 1540, this Renaissance estate boasts three exceptional gardens that majestically overlook the Vienne valley. 🏰

Inspired by the Dutch school, the formal, flower-filled garden adorns the historic residence with colourful beds of irises, dahlias, agapanthus and fragrant roses. 🥀

The gourmet walk is the jewel in the crown of the estate, with its unique collection of over 100 varieties of raspberry (the largest in France!) as well as rare fruit trees adapted to the Limousin climate: asiminus, yuzu, Sichuan pepper tree… 😋

The wild garden offers a natural interlude on the banks of the Vienne, with a living wicker hut designed by Emmanuel Puybonnieux 😍

2. The Vitailles Garden

A green setting with the Jardin Remarquable label at the gateway to Corrèze

One of France’s 100 Most Beautiful Detours,Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche is a charming medieval town in the south of the Haute-Vienne region, with an exceptional treasure trove of plants just an hour from Limoges. Since 1985, Annie and Jean-Louis Reix have been cultivating their passion at the Jardin des Vitailles, a remarkable garden of over one hectare where nature reigns supreme. 🌲

This symphony of plants features majestic three-hundred-year-old chestnut trees set against a forest of seven-hundred-year-old Douglas fir trees. Giant magnolia trees, a variety of maples, colourful azaleas and primitive ferns make up a living tableau of a thousand shades of green, punctuated by delicate floral touches. 🌸

Grassed paths wind their way between shady pergolas, tranquil ponds and welcoming gazebos, revealing carefully tended vegetable gardens, fruit trees and colourful flowerbeds as you stroll along in an unspoilt natural setting. 🍃

3. The Fukutsu-En Japanese Garden

A passion turned into a remarkable garden in Haute-Vienne

Bonnac-la-Côte, a commune near Limoges, is home to a rare and unusual nugget: the Japanese garden Fukutsu-En. The brainchild of Francis Léobon, a former railway worker turned master gardener, this exceptional site was reborn after the devastating storm of 1999. Covering an area of 5,000 m², he has recreated the essence of traditional Japanese gardens from scratch. ⛩️

It took 550 tonnes of rock to create this contemplative landscape, unique in Japan. The moss garden, tea garden and Zen garden follow one another in harmony, while the koi carp move serenely through the water garden. In spring, azaleas light up the paths; in autumn, Japanese maples adorn the garden in flamboyant colours. The tea pavilion, the spiritual heart of the estate, offers an authentic meditative interlude. 🧘‍♀️
